I have chosen the CGI / 3D Animation Pathway and will be attending Kevin Rowe’s classes.
I have got no experience in 3D animation but this is the area that I am most interested in and would like to explore further.
In the First Maya lesson, we made an aeroplane. I especially enjoyed the sculpting part. It’s amazing to start with a cube and end up with a flying aeroplane!
Currently, I struggle a bit with frame-by-frame animation in terms of understanding the spacing and timing between frames + my drawing skills need more work as I find it quite difficult to proportionally align my elements on each frame. Therefore, I seem to perform much better working with Maya and doing more motion-based/technical animation work.
So far it seems so intuitive and fun working in 3D. In the Second Maya lesson, we played a bit with “Bonky” and made him jump across the screen. We learned how to use the timeline, graph controls, keyframes etc.
Following our Acting class from the previous week where we looked into the 7 levels of tension, now we introduced this practice in our animation work. I animated “Bonky” getting scared of the dinosaur Rex and demonstrated the levels from Neutral to Alert to Tragic.
